Interview of Karan Singh Grover on Sabras Radio with Raj Baddhan.

Raj: Thanks so much for taking the time out; I know you're in the middle of you shooting at the moment, thank you so much for taking out the time to be with us today
KSG: that's ok; I could do with a 15 minute break man.
Raj: how does it feel to be a part of Qubool Hai on zee tv?
KSG: Im very honoured, it's a great show, its very detailed, its very upmarket if I do say so myself and they give a lot of attention to all the small details which is something that I really like.

Tweets:
Raj: Are there any similarities between you and Asad, and how easy or hard is it to portray Asad's character in Qubool Hai?

KSG: there are not many similarities actually, because he's a very very proper guy. The only thing that is common is I don't like food on the bed, I like to eat at the table properly, but other than that he is a very serious person and I'm not at all. I mean, the fans would know, people who have been watching me for some time would know that. Its difficult for me to keep a straight face and not make jokes and not move my hands too much and slow down my movements completely, so its difficult but I'm getting there I think.
Raj: But is it challenging as an actor for you to portray something so different to your real life character?
KSG: Its extremely challenging, because he is also a very multi-layered person, there are so many layers in his personality because of whatever's happened in his past, to keep that on the fore-front at all times is a little challenging.

Raj: A favourite dialogue in Urdu from Qubool Hai?
KSG: oh Man, I have such a difficult time learning those lines and you want me to say them right now? (both are laughing) Ha to, I really like that line when I said ki 'Bohot hi badtehzeeb larkiya hai, inhe kepre pehene ki tameez nahi'
Raj: you enjoyed that did you?
KSG: Ya Ya
(both laughing)
KSG: good fun, I like telling people what to wear
(both laughing)
Raj: I love that
Raj: Have you got any regrets about not doing any previous show such as other drama serials that you may have not opted in for that are now running successfully on other channels?
KSG: (He didn't understand as the network was breaking so he repeated)
KSG: No, I have no regrets as such about any other show that I was supposed to do because I wasn't really suppose to do any other show except for Is Pyar Ko Kya Naam Do, that was on star plus but that's shut down as well and I think the break worked for me and I'm just really lucky man, I'm lucky that I got this role and the chance to work with four lions and I don't think there is any other show that I would be doing on television right now.

Raj: Karan, how do you interact with your fans, because you're not on any social networking sites, how do you see the response to your character and to how your acting abilities are liked by your fans?
KSG: I don't really see the response, my father is mostly in touch with most of the fans, and if the ratings are good and everyone is happy, I get to know somehow.
Raj: fan from Algeria, he is popular and his popularity has crossed here in Algeria as well.
KSG: That's awesome man, thank you so much.
Raj: what's the best thing about your character Asad?
KSG: he's a very sorted guy, he knows what he wants to do, he knows what he's doing, and he's done everything on his own, without any help from anyone else, so he's a self made man, I like that about him.
Raj: and away from Asad, what about your favourite cuisine, what does Karan like eating?
KSG: I like eating a lot of things that I can't really because of the fat content in them but I love pizzas and we don't have burger king here but if we did the triple whopper anytime.
Raj: You should come to London for that, we got loads of Burger Kings here for you.

KSG: I know man; soon, I hardly get time to go home.
Raj: Have you been to London before?
KSG: No I haven't
Raj: because of shooting commitments, you probably wont get time any time yet because of Qubool Hai
KSG: Not any time soon, maybe next year hopefully.
Raj: what's the worst part of acting? Is it the gruelling hours, the hours that you have to devote to shooting?
KSG: No, am actually ok with the hours, I'm an ex hotelier, we had 18 hour shifts anyway so its not a big thing, and I was carrying stuff and trays full of food and stuff like that so this is much easier than that.
Raj: did you have to do any research to play a muslim character?
KSG: I didn't really need any research, I lived in Saudi Arabia for about 12 years so I'm quite accustomed to everything Islam.
Raj: very good, ok.
Raj: what's the 1 thing you dislike or like about your profession?
KSG: there are pros and cons in everything, in our profession the only thing that, we don't really get any privacy, that can be a little frustrating sometimes but its understandable. And what I really like, now this is a complete opposite of what I've just said, is all the attention.
Raj: the Attention, from the fans yeah

KSG: yeah.
Raj: talking about privacy, personal question, what was your first reaction when you first laid eyes on Jen in kasauti?
KSG: ohh! You guys don't know this story, I really liked her that time and she didn't like me, so I never said anything, I've always liked her from a very long time.
Raj: so how did you pursue her, if you knew that she didn't like you
KSG: (cuts in) I didn't, see she didn't like me and we were just friends then, if she was upset about something she used to talk to me about it and I used to make her laugh because that's what I do wherever I go. So that was our friendship and then later things materialized and now were married, that's a good thing.
Raj: she hasn't got any regrets now has she?
KSG: She better not man!
Raj laughs
Raj: aw that's sweet, it's a sweet story that.
Raj: by the way, have you got any plans to become producer or director any time soon? with you being an actor

KSG: uh not producer, but I do like direction and I would want to pursue a career in that, but there's alooot of hard work and struggle that goes behind direction. I'm starting, lets see, its all just a thought yet.
Raj: In TV or films would you say?
KSG: Both
Raj: what do you usually do when you return home from work?
KSG: Playstation
Raj: Oh yes, yes.
KSG: ya, I mean you get a few hours, that's about it, sleep, then I waste some time playing and I don't ignore jenny, coz she plays with me so it's a good thing.
Raj: oh brilliant, does she
KSG: ya man.
Raj: what do you like playing on the Playstation? What's your favourite game?
KSG: Taken, Fight Night, street fighter. Burn Out,
Raj: it sounds like you quite an action kind of guy then, what about Jenny; does she enjoy the action side to you?

KSG: she does, she does really, and I didn't know this about her but she has an action side to her as well because she's pretty good at all the games, earlier I thought it was just beginners luck but she practices and she gets better.
Raj: I know you haven't got much time, just a few more questions.
Raj: Asad seems to be an avid reader, are you, do you like reading books yourself?
KSG: I do but, I don't really read a lot of fiction.
Raj: asad likes cricket, do you prefer basketball more like Armaan? Or something different?
KSG: I like basketball
Raj: are you not a cricket fan?
KSG: not really, ya I know, I'm an Indian and I'm not a cricket fan, I know, its bad (laughs) but I don't like cricket so much. I like basketball, I like volleyball
Raj: how is the experience of working in a family drama like qubool hai different from working in a youth show like DMG?
KSG: Its absolutely different, the set-up is completely different, the actors are obviously completely different, and just the whole story content probably is somewhere similar but the way your suppose to perform it is very different and its much heavier, the youth was easier to do.
Raj: And you say also that things have changed in terms of technology also since you finished dill mill gayye to Qubool Hai now, tims have changed a little but haven't they?
KSG: times have changed, we have new equipment, its much faster, we have two units running at the same time; all the time so, and it's a bigger channel as well. Zee TV is a much bigger channel than Star One was at that time which is now Life OK. So everything is different.
Raj: According to you, which scene or episode was your best performance as Armaan?
KSG: that's difficult, best one…
Raj: which one would you say stands out for you?

KSG: there's so many man, but if I had to say one, there was this, I don't remember the name or number of the episode, but its in Armaan;s room, where he brings Riddhima, Armaan is wearing a black shirt, Riddhima is wearing a yellow salwar kameez and he has pictures of her all over the room and he asks her to marry him.
Raj: aw sweet. Also, Karan, I don't know if you know, but you've been listed as Asia's 24th most sexiest man, how does that make you feel?
KSG: I know!  Its pretty good, jenny kicked my ass man, she's number 21.
Raj laughs
KSG: really, see what my life is like man, my wife's kicking my ass in every field, its not fun
Raj: and also beating you in Taken as well
KSG: yeah, exactly. She's Hot and she plays well.
Raj: what according to you is your biggest asset? Your physic, your voice, your eyes or something else?
KSG: what I feel is my biggest asset?
Raj: Yeah
KSG: I think just my honesty to the character, that's it. Everything else is ok.
Raj: what do you love most about Armaan and Asad? And how is life with wife Jenny?

KSG: Life with wife Jenny is Excellent! Better than I expected, thank you so much god. And what I love about Armaan the most; Armaan was very open about his emotions, he always said whatever he had to, which is a good thing, Asad doesn't; he keeps everything to himself which is his character and that's why he is they way he is, so that's the only thing.
Raj: do you know what, there's so many of your fans who want to see Dill Mill Gayye back, if that ever came back, would you ever do a season 2 for that?
KSG: Of course! Who else?
Raj: good, we all know you're a good chef so what was the first thing you made for Jenny and what was it?
KSG: oh, firstly correction; I'm not a very good chef; I am just a graduate from a hotel management institute, so it was mandatory for us to know how to cook. I don't enjoy it very much, and the first thing that I ever cooked for Jenny was, I don't know if you know what maggi is, do you know what maggi is?
Raj: no, what's that

KSG: its one of those microwave noodles.
Raj: oh ok, noodles in the microwave, ok, so do you cook regularly for jenny or is that something that you leave to her to do?
KSG: no I don't cook regularly at all, I would never do that.
Both laugh
KSG: she tried it for abit, she liked it but I think she's bored of it now.
Raj: yeah and you don't want to give her too much of a habit otherwise she'll expect it all the time
KSG: Exactly, see men understand this man .
Raj: I know, I know
Both laughing
KSG: don't give them too much coz then you get stuck.
Raj: your favourite gist that you have received from your wife Jenny?
KSG: she bought me the new Taken tag tournament CD, for Playstation so ya, that's the best latest thing.
Raj: are you happy with the current phase of your life or do you feel there is anything missing at the moment?
KSG: I wish I was shooting for a film as well. That's the only thing that's missing right now
Raj: are you talking to any film producers about making a bollywood debut?
KSG: uh no, I've already shot for a film and its already complete, and everything is done. Just waiting for the release, I don't know when that's going to happen so lets hope for the best
Raj: have you got a name for the film?
KSG: it's called Lorie, like a lullaby
Raj: oh ok, brilliant. And when can we expect that, some time next year?
KSG: I have no clue man; I wish I did but ya hopefully in a few years (laughing a little)
Raj: Karan, with Christmas around the corner, got any plans for Christmas or will you be working around Christmas?

KSG: no I'm not suppose to be working on Christmas, my wife, Jenny is a protestant, she a catholic so not suppose to be working on Christmas, I'm suppose to be at home, we are suppose to have Christmas lunch and Christmas dinner and stuff like that.
Raj: Awesome and new years, will you be partying for new years?
KSG: don't know yet, most probably I'll be working.
Raj: Karan, thank you so much for your time, its been a pleasure talking to you, I know you're a busy man so im not going to take any more of your time so thankyou very much from the fans as well.
KSG: Thank you Raj, Thank You to all the fans as well thank you so much and I must leave now.
Raj: yes, good luck and we'll see you soon in London alright
KSG: Alright, thank you so much.
